WHAT IS SUMMER DAY CAMP?
Summer Day Camp is an annual fun-filled week available to all registered Cub Scouts. Each year goes by a new theme.
Camp activities will be based primarily on "FUN" The activities may help each of the Scouts earn credit towards their rank advancements, arrow points, Webelos activity badges, and sports and academic belt loops.
The boys are divided by age: Bears and Wolves are grouped together into Camp Dens. Webelos Scouts are in separate Camp Dens.
Scouts will receive, for their registration fee, a great looking t-shirt and hat, a very special patch, crafts and other items that they will make at Camp, as well as many other fun activities.
Scouts are grouped by the rank towards which they will be working during the next school year. So, if you have a Tiger during the current school year, he will be working on Wolf achievements and be with a Wolf/Bear den during camp.
Station rotations are by rank: Wolf/Bear and Webelos I/II. Tigers will again have their own unique program with their adult partners.
WHEN IS SUMMER DAY CAMP?
The camp is normally held Monday - Thursday during the first full week after school is out for the summer. Scouts may attend morning or evening sessions.
Morning session: 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Evening session: 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
WHERE IS SUMMER DAY CAMP?
Great Plains Summer Day Camp is held at Bob Woodruff Park North in East Plano.
Bob Woodruff is located between Parker and Park off San Gabriel Drive. The camp is physically located in the wood grove north of the pond and pavilion.
HOW DO I REGISTER FOR SUMMER DAY CAMP?
Day Camp Registration Forms are all on the Great Plains Day Camp website.
Once you are there, you must register to access the online registration process. After your register to the site, you will find the forms and other valuable information. These forms can be completed using your computer and a printer. After completing each form, you will print them from your email, sign and submit with your payment to the pack camp coordinator. If you do not have access to a computer, please contact the camp coordinator.
Each youth (Scout, Tiger, Lil' Scout Buddy, Jr. Staff/Red Shirt) must submit the appropriate Registration Form as well as the BSA Health & Medical Record, Parts A & B only. Please be sure to fill out all boxes, even if only with N/A. Immunization information on the Medical Form must be actual dates, not "current" or "up-to-date". Appropriate notarized forms must be attached to the Health Form if your child is not vaccinated for any reason.
Each Adult must complete four (4) forms plus attach a copy of his/her current Youth Protection Training certification
(1) an Adult Volunteer Registration Form
(2) a Volunteer Information Sheet
(3) a signed Adult Volunteer Agreement
(4) a BSA Health & Medical Record, Parts A & B only (found at http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/34605_Letter.pdf )
You must provide proof that each Adult Volunteer has completed YPT (Youth Protection Training) to be in compliance with the Texas Youth Camp Safety Act. YPT can be easily completed on-line at http://olc.scouting.org/info/ypt.html.
When complete, simply print out the certificate at the end of the training and submit a copy with your forms. If you completed YPT for last year's camp, you can submit a copy of your certification as on-line certification is good for two years.
The Volunteer Information is required so that our Day Camp will be in compliance with the Texas Youth Camp Safety Act. In addition to name and address information, each of the questions must be answered, and then the form must be signed and dated (notarization is not required). The Camp Director is required by the Texas Youth Camp Safety Act to then conduct a background check, even if one was conducted for last year's camp.
One check is sufficient for all participants in your family. Please make checks payable to Circle Ten Council.

-
Camp hat for sun protection (Scouts must wear each day; optional for adults and junior volunteers)
-
Sack lunch with drink. Walking den leader (WDL) will store lunches in a cooler (please, no mayonnaise, eggs, or other food items that could spoil). Please remember that all participants, including volunteers and Lil' Scout Buddies, will need a sack lunch

Large bucket with lid to sit on and carry supplies (5-gallon buckets can be found at Lowe's and Home Depot)
-
Comfortable closed-toe shoes, no sandals
-
Comfortable hiking shorts or pants, no short shorts
-

HOW CAN I CONTRIBUTE?
For Summer Day Camp to be successful, it takes all kinds of people working together.
There are volunteers, known as Station Staff, who help at the different stations, like games, crafts, etc.
Another very important volunteer is the Walking Den Leader (WDL). Walking Den Leaders make the world go around, well, they make camp go around! As a Walking Den Leader, you are responsible for keeping track of the campers as they go from station to station and helping the campers with their station projects.
We maintain Two-Deep Leadership at all times, so each Camp Den of boys cannot begin camp unless they have two (2) YPT-trained adults with them. That is what makes this job so critical.
Please consider coming and hanging out with your scout! Even if you can only work one day, your scout will love having you there.
NOTE: Each Pack is required to send at least one (1) registered leader/adult for every five (5) Scouts at each camp per session to be Walking Den Leaders. For instance, if Pack 1220 sends 1 Wolf, 2 Bears and 2 Webelos to the morning session, we must send 1 volunteer to be a Walking Den Leader for the 1 Wolf and 2 Bears (since these two ranks are grouped together) and 1 volunteer to be a Walking Den Leader for the 2 Webelos.
ALSO NOTE: Each Pack sending 8 or more Scouts to camp MUST send at least one (1) registered adult all four days to work as Station Staff. Pack 1220 will fall in this category. The district will appoint Station Staff if there are no volunteers.
To make volunteering easier, a program called Lil' Scout Buddy Camp is provided for younger siblings 3 to 9 years of age while their parents are attending camp as volunteers (Lil' Scout Buddies must be fully potty trained).
Lil' Scout Buddies also have a program planned for them that involves physical activities, crafts and special activities such as a visit from a Plano fireman. One adult volunteer is also required for every 1-5 Lil' Scout Buddies the Pack registers per session (a.m./p.m.).
Each Tiger Scout must have one adult registered and attending with him at all times per BSA policy. When submitting an application for your Tiger Scout to attend camp, please also submit all application forms for the adult who will attend.
